Next Gen of the Month is a monthly Q&A with a dental student or new dentist where we ask them about their experiences and accomplishments thus far in their dentistry journey. This month we are featuring Dr. Sep Pouresa, who graduated from McGill University where he was also awarded with the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for academic excellence and community involvement. Dr. Pouresa is now a cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills.
Why did you decide to pursue dentistry?
I was drawn to dentistry because it combines science with artistry. For me, it has always been about aesthetics: how a smile can transform the way someone feels about themselves and how the world perceives them. I loved the idea of using precision, detail, and design to create something that is not only functional but beautiful. Dentistry gave me the perfect outlet to merge my passion for esthetics with the ability to make a lasting impact on people’s confidence.
Advice for future dental graduates?
Stay committed to growth and continuous learning. Dentistry is advancing quickly, and those who remain curious and open-minded will always find opportunities. Beyond technical skill, remember that dentistry is about people. Building trust and listening with empathy will take you further than clinical ability alone.

Favourite way to relax when not in the operatory or studying?
I spend much of my time training and bodybuilding as it allows me to disconnect and recharge while also staying disciplined and focused. Fitness gives me clarity and balance, and it has become an extension of my lifestyle. I also enjoy travelling and experiencing new environments, which helps me bring fresh inspiration back to my work.
You continued your education with a residency in Advanced Dentistry (AEGD) at the University of the Pacific and completed botox training with the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. What made you decide to pursue these pathways, and would you recommend to other new dentists?
I wanted to go beyond the basics and offer my patients a more complete approach to their esthetics and oral health. The AEGD residency strengthened my ability to manage complex cases, while the facial esthetics training allowed me to bring harmony to the entire face, not just the teeth. I would recommend these pathways to any new dentist because they expand your skillset and give you the confidence to approach treatment comprehensively. It opens doors to creating results that are both functional and beautiful.
