Why stop listening to those who discourage you from starting out as a young dentist entrepreneur?

Despite what many will tell you, being a young dentist who owns a clinic is not a disadvantage—on the contrary, it is a powerful asset.

When you have a clear vision for your dream clinic, you will often hear that owning a practice is far more work than you expect. Many will try to discourage you, emphasizing the challenges rather than the opportunities.

I launched my clinic last year, and it has been one of the most rewarding adventures of my life. I have no regrets—quite the opposite. Living this experience as a young entrepreneur helped me realize that I possess unique advantages and tools that truly make a difference.

1. We are naturally fluent in social media

Today, every business needs a strong online presence—and a dental clinic is no exception. As a service-based business, we are the service, and we need to be visible. A strong media presence is key to growing both your brand and your business. Visibility attracts patients, builds trust, and creates momentum.

As Gen Z dentists, we grew up with Instagram and TikTok. We understand the algorithms, the codes, and how these platforms function. Social media becomes a powerful tool not only for attracting new patients, but also for recruiting staff and showcasing our services. And the best part? It’s free.

2. We adapt quickly to new technologies

Dentistry is evolving at an incredible pace. From CBCT imaging and intraoral scanners to DS Core systems and 3D printers, technology is reshaping our workflows daily. As young dentists, we quickly understand these tools and integrate them efficiently into our practices. This technological ease allows us to optimize workflows, improve patient experiences, and stay ahead in an ever-changing profession.

3. Our clinics can be paid off earlier in life

The initial financial investment can be intimidating—especially with student debt. Owning a clinic is undeniably a financial risk, but it is also one of the most stable and secure investments in healthcare. Starting early allows debts to be repaid faster, with the realistic goal of having a fully paid clinic before our forties. This creates long-term financial freedom and professional independence.

Final thoughts

My advice is simple: trust yourself and listen to your inner voice. Know your value before someone else defines it for you.

Know yourself, understand what you do best, and design your role around your strengths. No one excels at everything—whether it’s accounting, finance, or human resources. Learn how these systems work, clearly define your values, and surround yourself with trustworthy people to whom you can delegate. This will free up your time and energy to focus on what truly matters: growing and developing your business.
