On Friday, July 18, Just Dentistry in London, Ontario, opened its doors—and hearts—for its first-ever First Responder Appreciation Day, a community event dedicated to celebrating the everyday heroes who keep our city safe: paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and their families.

From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, our clinic became a hub of warmth and connection. We welcomed many first responders and family members for an afternoon filled with free lunch, ice cream, goodie bags, and giveaways—including a draw for a Samsung TV. The day was more than just a celebration; it was a gesture of sincere appreciation, reminding our frontline workers that their service does not go unnoticed.

What made this day truly special was the overwhelming support from both the community and local businesses. The entire Just Dentistry team—from the front desk to dentists and management—worked together to plan and host the event. Staff greeted attendees decked out in navy blue FIGS representing our first responder communities, creating a united front of respect and celebration.

In the week leading up to the event, we visited every single paramedic, fire, and police station across London and the surrounding area, hand-delivering over 500 donuts—thanks to the generous support of Tim Hortons—and personally inviting first responders to join us. These visits weren’t just about promotion; they were opportunities to connect face-to-face, listen to stories, and express our gratitude on a personal level.

We also received incredible support from Retal Foods, who joined the effort by offering free shawarma meals to first responders during the event. This outpouring of generosity from local businesses was a powerful reminder of what can happen when the dental community steps beyond the operatory to lead with compassion.

Our goal was simple: to show our appreciation in a way that felt meaningful. As a dental clinic, we often care for patients in times of need—but this time, we wanted to care for those who are always there in times of need.

First Responder Appreciation Day reaffirmed our belief that dentistry is not just a clinical profession—it is a community role. It is a platform through which we can amplify kindness, build relationships, and say thank you in tangible ways. We are proud to have hosted this event, and we hope it inspires other dental professionals to explore similar initiatives in their own communities.

To every first responder who attended—and to every family member who supports them behind the scenes—thank you. You are the heartbeat of our cities, and it was an honour to celebrate you.
