The why: Background story
In July 2024, the Waterdown Ontario community welcomed “Evolve OMS,” a beautiful cutting-edge oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. The proud owner, Dr. Anthony Staibano, is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with 2nd generation family roots in dentistry. Growing up, he often spent evenings in his father’s practice, observing, learning, and seeking out opportunities to help around the office wherever possible. This early exposure to dental healthcare sparked his fascination and drive to follow in his father’s footsteps. During a high school co-op placement, Dr. Staibano found himself captivated by assisting with lab work and deeply inspired by how patients’ lives were transformed through the personalized care they received at his dad’s office. In 2010, after enrolling in the University of Toronto’s dental program, Dr. Staibano’s passion for oral surgery was ignited during a specific lecture. The professor’s insights inspired his interest in pursuing higher education related to delivering more challenging, medically complex treatments to patients with more involved dental and facial conditions.
The how: Planning & preparation
After completing dental school, Dr. Staibano pursued a residency, internships, and advanced training in oral surgery, finishing his programs in 2019 and earning a master’s degree by 2021. After sharpening his clinical skills as an associate for a couple of years, he decided to pursue his dream of building a start-up practice. He was excited by the opportunity to design clinical workflows around the specialized procedures and technologies that aligned with his expertise and clinical interests. After a year of searching, he found the perfect location in a 10-years-young commercial plaza, featuring a ground-floor unit with a separate rear exit – ideal for ensuring privacy for post-surgery patients. The plaza’s ample parking and proximity to other healthcare services made it an ideal spot to bring his vision to life. In December 2022, Dr. Staibano signed a lease for the 2500sq/ft space. Architectural complexities with permitting delayed the start of construction to April 2023. Despite a few unforeseen supply and distribution challenges, in July of 2024, he was thrilled to open his doors and begin onboarding his newly recruited all-star medical dental team.
The results: Technical design features
Evolve Oral Surgery stands out not only for its state-of-the-art technology but also for its futuristic and calming design, inspired by cyberpunk aesthetics. The clinic’s modern layout carefully separates clinical and non-clinical areas to ensure patient comfort and team efficiency. The reception area is spacious and tranquil, featuring ambient lighting throughout the office. Patients are monitored and looked after in a dedicated recovery room with a private exit, offering a peaceful transition space after their procedures. The clinic boasts one large main surgical operatory with three additional fully equipped operatories, allowing flexibility for a variety of procedures. In addition, Evolve is equipped with the latest dental technologies, ensuring top-tier surgical precision and care. The staff room offers a comfortable place for the team to connect and to synergize between surgeries.
The impact: Empowered practice outcomes
A large boardroom provides a space for staff meetings as well as for hosting community CE events and personalized clinical mentorship meetings with referring dentists. Evolve OMS is more than just an oral surgery clinic – it’s a space for dentists to collaborate and grow. Dr. Staibano envisions it as a hub where general practitioners from the surrounding areas can visit to learn about the latest techniques and advancements in oral surgery. With its doors now open, the practice is ready to welcome all patients into a cutting-edge, tranquil surgical experience in the heart of Waterdown. They are also excited to provide a comprehensive range of referral-based surgical services that GPs may prefer to refer.
